Nice working environment for those who need help to integrate into the workforce. A good social enterprise worthy of support. Do drop by to give them your encouragement and business.
First visit to Social Enterprise Dignity Kitchen. Do visit and support when youβre around the area. Letβs support and contribute back in each of our small ways.
Fish and Chips is good! Fillet is juicy and fresh, batter is crispy (even after some time).
Signature Laksa has a good broth with generous ingredients.
Upgraded $7 for a set meal to include dessert and drinks. Very good value for money. Portions are generous.
Ondeh Ondeh Cake and Chocolate Fudge Cake both has fluffy sponge layers and generous cream. Flavourful and satisfying. However, we did find the cakes a little sweet towards the end of finishing an entire slice.
If driving, best to park at the multi-storey car park opposite, walk across the traffic light and youβre there.
A social enterprise that provide training and employment to the disadvantaged and challenged.
The food is great and the dishes I like are the Nonya style laksa, chicken claypot rice and also the Nasi briyani is not bad.
As they are very active in their corporate outreached, you might find yourself arrived and not able to dine in and the entire facility is closed to event. Perhaps check their Facebook or website if they indicate such a block out period.
Safe period to go is early lunch if possible.
To come here only for food and not realising what this place has done for the community is simply missing the point. Hearing the story of this social enterprise, how and why it started, straight from the founder himself, is a story of passion and determination. The tour led by one of the staff helped to better understand the different functions of this kitchen and the unique qualities of the folks that run it. The food being most amazing just made this visit all the more worth it. Fish and chip is a must try, cooked to perfection. The kolo mee is simply unforgettable. I had one and bought another serving home!
Chanced upon this place during one of my morning walks and decided to give it a try. A little research about the place reveals that the kitchen actually trains and hires people who are physically and socially challenged.
It is interesting to note that they serve up various types of food ... Claypot rice, kolo noodles, laksa, nasi lemak, western food and even cakes and pastries. You will definitely find something that suits you.
We had a dry kolo noodle and a chicken laksa. You can top up to make it a set to include cakes(you need to check which are the cakes included) and drinks. The noodle we ordered has the QQ texture and wasn't soggy, though it looked plain(asked for original sauce), it was surprisingly well flavoured when we tucked in. Loved that the ingredients were placed nicely on top of the noodles and not haphazardly scattered. I seldom order laksa nowadays because in recent years, it is hard to find a stall that gives a good laksa gravy. But this laksa, I must say the gravy is pretty thick and fragrant. It comes with a whole boiled egg, some fish cakes and slices of chicken with thick bee hoon. It was very filling and I really enjoyed it. Price is also very reasonable.
There was an elderly uncle who appears to be the supervisor was very helpful and walked us through on how to place our orders and collection, really appreciated that.
Parking can be found nearby at the block of flats(but limited lots) or at the Bendemeer market.
Overall, it was a pleasant new experience for me. Do lend your support when in the area.
Iβve been wanting to check out this place out for the longest time after learning that itβs run as a social enterprise. Was in the area today so dropped by for lunch. Place was pretty well organized. There is a central station where you order and pay, and then when your order is ready you head to your respective stall to pick up your order. There is a variety of Malay, Indian, Chinese and Western offerings. Plus a display case of baked goods and drinks of course. I had the nasi lemak with beef rendang which was good, and a slice of ondeh ondeh cake which was lovely as well. No air conditioning but clean with high ceiling fans for air circulation. Prices are comparable to eating at an air conditioned food court in a fancy mall. I didnβt mind paying a bit more as itβs going towards a good cause. Would come back again if Iβm in the area.
Thumbs up to the establishment and to trainees.
Patrons do place your order at the counter, once food is prep, they will announce your queue number for collection. Every visit is a new experience to the trainees, so do be patience when visiting.
I finish everything that is on my plate and cup π€€
